Almost Got It!

Internet has been ordered! Now, if AT&T would just get off their asses and SEND ME THE DAMN ADSL MODEM! Bastards.

Anyway, things are going pretty well. Waiting on some money - I have $60 to my name! Good lord that scares me. Hopefully I will get some birthday money from the grandparents when my mail starts catching up with me...

Anyway, Operation Tulsa was more or less a success. I look forward to getting back into the swing of blogging when I get internet hooked up at home. Right now it's annoying to have to ninja blog when no one is looking and I loot their internet.

Later!

Operation Tulsa Arrival...

I am changing the name from Operation Tulsa to Operation F**kmotherf**kingf**kingf**kerf**kf**k. I'll explain in greater detail once internet is costing me 20 cents a minute at Kinko's, but oh lord. This trip has been on tragedy after another after another.

That said, Tulsa is beautiful and my apartment is great! I have a good view, I'm on the 3rd floor so I don't have to listen to people fucking above me (that's fucking as in 'doing it') and I will never be affected by a flood - unless it's one of those 'need an ark' ones.

Anyway, I arrived in Tulsa, some how in one piece. Hopefully I can get my internets hooked up tomorrow so I don't have to do this to often.

Oh, it's my birthday today as well. Happy 29+1 for me! I don't think I am going to be able to relax and reflect as much today as I normally would, so 29+2 is going to have to be extra lazy.

Peace!

D'oh!

So I get into boxing things and sweeping and this and that and before I know it, it's 12AM and I have missed my last planned shindig in Las Vegas, the b-roll.net NAB party.

Oh, the humanity! Free beer, prizes and a chance to say 'wazzup' to the b-rollers. Oh well.

On a somewhat related note... On Saturday we all arrived at Hooters to find it closed down. Forever. A quality statement describing my life in Vegas!

Heading East (A Story of Hauling Ass)

It hasn't been written yet, but it's been determined. We (my Mom is coming to town to help me move) are moving me 1,700 miles in 24 hours. One of the downsides of the Midwest, shit ain't open on Sunday - including the office of my apartment complex.

Plus, since my Mom has a flight out of Tulsa at 6 in the morning on Monday we can't check in then. (unless I want to move in by myself! I did that when I moved here. It sucked hardcore ass.)

So I'm leaving Las Vegas on Friday morning and arriving in Tulsa Saturday morning. Thank goodness I have someone to help me drive! Plus (hopefully) there won't be any snow like when I moved here.

As a remeberance to that 3 day voyage, here's a link!

Making Progress!

I can now officially see 75% of my floor! As far as I am concerned, that's progress.

I spent a decent amount of time on Wednesday going through my clothes and throwing out a lot that is just to old, or doesn't fit anymore. Some of the clothes I have I have to wonder if they ever fit at all.

I have given myself a challenge though. The clothes that are only a size to small for me I kept. My goal is to be able to fit into it before too long. We'll see how well that goes.

I think I can probably pull it off. I've noticed that my life on overnights actually physically damaged me in a couple of ways. First, I was a hell of a lot less active. When you work during the day you have pointless VOSOTS and packages to shoot. But on overnights, you only really get out of the car if there is shit going on. Even then I didn't have to walk to terribly far, thanks to the patented media oppression by Las Vegas' lovely law enforcement community! I also noticed that I smoked more, which is obviously not good for you.

Another thing is that lunch usually consisted of fast food. As did dinner since by the time I was off work I was too tired to fix any real food to eat. Speaking of tired, overnights will make you exhausted. It's not natural and if you don't make a point of working out (which I didn't) you will be to tired to do anything. It will be nice for that to change.

I look forward to seeing what my new life during the day will do for me, both physically and mentally!

A final note, tonight is my going away dinner (at Hooters of course) and then party at a bar with people from my station and beyond! It should be a ton of fun! I will be sure to include pictures and possibly video, assuming I survive!

Apartment Approved, For Real!

\o/ Hurrah!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, however you look at it) they (the complex) have their own cable company - which is free to the tenants - but screws up my ability to just transfer my COX (hehehe) service and internet. And for whatever reason, the local phone company doesn't provide DSL service there.

If I end up not having a southern view, I may be stuck with dial up! Unacceptable.

The Last Day...

It's interesting. Friday I was so pissed off and frustrated with everything (can we say single person, multiple cable reel, satellite live shot where I have to shoot a package as well?) that I really considered not returning to work on Monday. Then Monday, nothing with the new editing system went right - and to top it off the three mini packages I was given to put together were cobbled from 10 XD files discs and 3 DVCPro file discs. I really considered not returning on Tuesday.

Tuesday was uneventful. Stand off and some live pics. I had my 'replacement' with me, so it was an easy night. Wednesday was boring. Then it was time to leave Wednesday after work. For the last time.

You'd think after Friday I'd be like 'good riddance'.

But as I left the building for the last time ever, I felt choked up. Despite how much I wanted to light them on fire at times, I am really going to miss them. All of them. Even the producers.

I really am lucky. I came to Vegas and took on what can be thought of nothing less than the best job available at the station. I've worked with mostly the same people since I started there, and I've fallen in love with all of them.

Yes, even the producers.

With everything, the '2 hour' trips to California, the wild goose chases to the Valley of Fire, the pointless ass live traffic shots and the insane decisions to go live on something boring rather than my kick ass spot news story (everything I shot should have been a live, dammit!) I can say without any shadow of a doubt, that KLAS TV has been the best TV station I have ever worked for. KOKI is really going to have some big shoes to fill.

KLAS, thank you for the last two years. I will never forget you.

Vegas Has Community...

Or so say Matt, my chief.

He brought up some good points of how I dopn't realize it because I really haven't been out looking for it. He's probably right. Though I questioned how I would be involved considering that I am sleeping when most community activities go on.

At any rate, he made some valid points so I will officially back down on my statement that Las Hellhole has no community spirit. I do wish I could have gotten to see what Matt loves so much about Vegas...

To those who think I am just a small town yokel though, I would like to counter that with the fact that the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro population is 4.4 million, and I would declare that MSP is one of, if not the, greatest city in North America. It's just too fucking cold!

Anyway, my point is that I stand down on my hard stance that there is no community pride in Las Vegas. But I am still moving.

Glad That's Taken Care Of... Sorta...

Apartment approved!

Except for the fact that I am a retard* and forgot to mail the application fee and deposit. Sent it today via USPS Priority Mail. Hopefully it will get there by Saturday so they don't decide to change their minds.

Let this be a lesson to you, kids. Take an already stupid idiot, and put him on overnights (a shift that has been known to rot brains) and look what happens.

Man I can't wait to sleep 8 hours a day again...

*In this context, the word retard is used not in relation to the person with the mental disability that they cannot control, but as in dumbass, like the retards on Jackass or others that will soon be up for a Darwin Award.

Welcome to my blog!

Thanks for visiting my arena of crap and terrible writing! My name is Erin Winking, also known as ewink and this is my blog.

I am a 29+2 year old, year old television news photojournalist from Springfield, Illinois who just got done with a two year bit in Las Vegas and has now, for whatever reason come back to Realtown, America - Tulsa, Oklahoma! I am a huge anime fan as well!

Outside of that I enjoy writing, playing computer games (EVE Online 4tw!) and not updating my website! I am also semi-political, whereas I like to bitch about things, but tend to not do anything else. If you are going to put me in a party, you'd have to consider me a libertarian, even though I am not a member of any political party.

I hope you like my blog! Feel free to drop me a line!
